Central Valley Grant Technical Assistance Cohort

In partnership with the Energy Efficiency Best Practices Coordinator (BPC), Local Government Commission (LGC), and Institute for Local Governments (ILG), ICLEI will be hosting a structured technical assistance program in June for 5-8 local governments in the Central Valley on energy and grants. Aimed at local governments in the Central Valley with high proportions of DACs, the program will help build capacity for agencies through planning an energy project and coaching them through completing funding applications. The program will guide agencies through resources provided by the state and the public utilities, best practices on community engagement, case studies on successful collaborative community and local government projects, and grant writing.

What has SJVCEO been up to?

We are happy to say that SJVCEO is back to providing updates monthly. We appreciate the interest in keeping up with the organizational happenings and want to keep you in the loop.

In January the VIEW Partnership celebrated partner and partnership achievements with over 60 attendees at the Vintage Press for the VIEW the Success! Luncheon. This annual celebration serves as a time for networking for partners as well as to highlight the tremendous energy achievements. This year we were able to hand out two SCE Energy Leader Awards. The City of Visalia was awarded platinum and the City of Porterville was awarded gold. Community outreach efforts from elected officials were acknowledged and both the County of Tulare and Kings Supervisors were awarded certificates of appreciation. All our partners continue to strive to reach the top tier within the VIEW partnership. Many partners will be working toward a complete streetlights conversion to LED lights. We can’t wait to share the finished project pictures with all of our followers.

HDR Partners were also honored and awarded SCE energy leader partner awards in early February. We were happy to honor both the City of Victorville as well as the Town of Apple Valley with gold awards. In total the partnership has achieved over 198,491 kWh in energy savings over the last two years. For 2018 the partnership will be working towards having all electric service accounts benchmarked as well as working towards completing energy action plans. Both activities will help to identify highest users as well as create project pipelines. We look forward to what this year holds!

METU is still making progress as the 2018 program year gets underway. The program completed a custom insulation project in the City of Avenal during the month of December 2017. All work has been completed and wrapped up. METU continues to monitor usage on benchmarked accounts to verify the calculated energy savings. METU will deliver reports on this to Avenal in the coming months.

The City of Madera completed recent lighting audits with METU and PG&E. PG&E is making the final touches on the lighting audit report and METU is busy seeking other opportunities for the city.

The City of Arvin has not lost a step since their recent personnel changes. They are moving full speed ahead on additional lighting projects including exploring LED upgrades to their remaining city-owned street lights.

Benchmarking and Municipal Readiness Reports detailing project pipelines have been completed and delivered to the City of Selma. Stay tuned for updates on projects occurring in the very near future with Selma! Stay tuned!
